Russia is a world of its own. They do not take cues from the West and have a deep sense the Slavic world is something unique and as a Russian soul the west does not understand. Immensely rich country in terms of natural resources as well as intellect, still trying to shake off oligarchical tradition. In some sense it never left its Czarist tradition.
