I think it has to do with their closed view on the world. I am an American but my family was from Ukraine and I do not think he was the optimal choice for president of Ukraine. Yulia Tymoshenko has accused Viktor Yanukovich for not debating her in the elections on TV. I think she is right. He is afraid that people will see that he is not as sharp as she is or that he does not have the best interest of Ukraine in mind. Rather he represents Putin and Russian influence in Kiev. </p>
